Skill Level: Designed for intermediate students comfortable centering clay, throwing independently and looking to explore throwing 2kg or more.

More Info: Ready to push your skills further on the wheel? This four-week intermediate course is designed for throwers who and ready to take on the challenge of working bigger and taller.

Over the course of the program, you’ll develop the techniques needed to handle larger amounts of clay with confidence — focusing on throwing tall cylinders and generous tableware forms like serving bowls. Each week builds on the last, giving you time to practise, refine, and grow.

With guided instruction, live demonstrations, and plenty of hands-on time at the wheel, you’ll be encouraged to push past your usual limits and discover what you’re capable of making.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to centre and open large amounts of clay
  • How to throw tall, controlled cylinders on the wheel
  • How to manipulate cylinders into a range of forms — flared and inverted rims, collaring, and working with tools
  • Trimming and refining larger vessels on the wheel

Course Structure:

  • Week 1: Throwing big and tall basics
  • Week 2: Refining throwing skills
  • Week 3: Tips on trimming larger vessels
  • Week 4: Glazing and finishing touches

Additional Costs:
All pieces made during the course will incur a one-off firing fee of $15/kg during glaze week. This covers glazing, handling, and two firings by our studio team. Your finished pieces will be ready for pickup a few weeks after your final class.
