Studio Program, Open to Independent Artists Seeking Space to Make & Create

Feb 24, 2021

Practise, practise, practise.
Most potters would agree that ceramics is an endless game of learning, experimentation and practise.

At Bisque studios, our Melbourne pottery school and studio we offer classes, and space where you can learn wheel throwing and develop your skills as a potter. We’re big believers in the value of independent exploration on any ceramicist’s journey, which is why we’ve recently expanded our Studio Program for 2021.

Good studio space for a ceramic artist can be hard to come by, and the set-up fees of a personal space quickly become expensive. Our Studio Program gives those who’ve fallen in love with ceramics, much needed time and space to work independently in our spacious, light-filled pottery studio. We welcome wheel throwers and hand-builders to access our studio every Monday and Thursday from 9am – 3pm.

Our goal is to support and foster a growing community of developing ceramic artists. We want our members to feel welcome and at home in our studio, whilst we provide all the practicalities a potter needs. – Use of the workspace, pottery wheels, storage, tools and equipment are all included in the monthly access fee. With clay, firing and glazes available for a small *fee. Everything you need, conveniently located on site at all times for you to use. We also have a small kitchenette and air-conditioned dining space for when you need a cuppa and a breather.

As well as the practical aspects of our studio, joining our program also provides space to meet other like minded makers. Enjoy your time to knuckle down and dig your hands into clay, or sit back and have a chat at the hand-building table. Be inspired by the works that surround you and provide yourself the clarity of mind to get making.

“Personally, I think my pottery skills developed hugely once I started throwing in my own time. I continued to attend my weekly class where I learned new forms and techniques, then I went away and practised and perfected what I’d been taught in class.” Georgie, Studio Manager

“My skills as a potter didn’t really solidify, until I had the time and space to create on-going works and continued repetition of forms. Having a studio space was where my works really blossomed and grew to where they are today.” Kate Brouwer – Studio owner & Maker at Asobimasu Clay.
